SUMMARY:Animal Welfare Society Fall Rabies Clinic
DESCRIPTION:The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County will be having their annual fall Rabies Clinic on Saturday\, October 1st\, at the Royal Order of the Moose Pavilion at 77 Universal Forrest Product Rd. in Ranson\, WV from 8:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. Due to Covid Virus\, this clinic will be Drive Thru only. All customers must wear face masks. All customers and pets will stay in their cars for registration. Customers will take their pets out of the car for the vaccination under the pavilion. To eliminate traffic congestion\, please do not arrive earlier than 7:45. Dr. Alice Ellis\, DVM will be vaccinating dogs and cats at 4 months of age and over. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers. There will be a secure\, enclosed area available to safely vaccinate cats. The vaccination cost is $10.00 cash or check for each pet. If your pet has been previously vaccinated\, you must bring previous Rabies Certificate to receive a three (3) year Vaccination and Certificate\, otherwise\, the vaccination will be valid for 1 year only. In addition\, if this is your pet’s first Rabies vaccine or they are overdue\, the vaccine will be valid for one year.

SUMMARY:Charles Town Ghost Tours
DESCRIPTION:Charles Town Ghost Tours\, the original haunted walk of Charles Town\, came to life in 2009. It was the brain-child of the city’s Mayor\, Peggy Smith. She tapped Ann Khiel Fern to be the guide of what was originally only meant to be a two-night event. Little did Smith or Fern realize how popular the ghost walk tour would become with both the living and the dead! Very quickly\, the term “ghosties” came into play as many of the patrons became return participants – some of which have attended twenty or more of Fern’s tours. In 2015\, Ann Khiel Fern\, affectionately know by locals as the “Ghost Lady of Charles Town”\, published a second book on the hauntings of Jefferson County. Jefferson County\, WV – Sometimes the Dead Speak: Haunted Tales of an Historic County is available on any of the Charles Town Ghost Tours. Ann Khiel Fern has been featured on Fox 5 News\, the television series Ghosts of Shepherdstown\, the Martinsburg\, WV\, radio station WRNR Talk Radio\, and newspapers The Journal\, located in Martinsburg\, and the Spirit of Jefferson. Charles Town Ghost Tours prides itself on the authenticity of the tales told and the honor with which the guides treat their resident spirits. Fern believes the respect shown to the dead is the reason that so many unique and unexplained experiences occur on the tours. The most recent projects we gave money through our foundation to local title 1 elementary schools in Jefferson County; Constructed over 100 foldable solid wood desks for virtual students and children that do not have working space at home for school work; participated in mentorship opportunities to High School students through Speech contest\, Interact support\, Rotary Youth Exchange; Park equipment donation to Morgan’s Grove Park; and two separate drives for Jefferson County Community Ministries for food and high risk needs. We are hoping to raise additional funds which are voted on by Shepherdstown Rotary to exclusively help youth in our community for our next academic year. \n

DESCRIPTION:Harpers Ferry\, W. Va.— Witness the power of field artillery that forced the surrender of the Harpers Ferry Union garrison in 1862–the largest surrender of Union troops of the entire Civil War. Living history volunteers from the Baltimore Light Artillery will demonstrate cannons on Saturday\, September 10 at 1\, 2\, and 3 p.m. on the Bolivar Heights battlefield\, grounds originally defended by Union troops during the battle of Harpers Ferry. Shuttles from the Visitor Center to the Bolivar Heights Battlefield and back will be provided. \nWalk a battlefield whose stories extend beyond just that of a Union defeat. The campaign continued at Antietam\, where the Union Army’s bloody victory led President Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. These words would ultimately redefine the conflict as a war to end slavery. After the war\, the founders of Harpers Ferry’s Storer College\, a school formed to educated formerly enslaved men and women and their descendants\, purchased Bolivar Heights battlefield as a back-up plan for their campus. \nWhat: Historic weapons demonstrations at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park\, Bolivar Heights battlefield. \nWhen: Saturday\, September 10\, 1\, 2\, and 3 pm. \nWhere: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park\, Bolivar Heights battlefield (end of Whitman Avenue\, Bolivar\, WV 25245). \nWho: Baltimore Light Artillery living history group.

DESCRIPTION:The Ranson Mile is back!!! After a 2-year hiatus\, we are SO excited to bring back this family friendly event for all ages. It’s always so much fun to see folks of all ages come out and be active together. Participants can run or walk this course and kids under 8 years old can register for free! Whether you want to run your fastest mile\, or bring your whole family out for a fun run/walk\, this event is for everyone. We’ll be celebrating our 12 year anniversary this year at Two Rivers Treads\, so the theme of the Ranson Mile will be “Birthday Party”! That means you can expect cake\, piñatas\, and birthday hats.
